Job summary

University of California, Los Angeles is seeking a capable IT Support Analyst to provide day-to-day instructional and user computer support for the History Department. You will plan, upgrade, troubleshoot, and train staff and graduate students, coordinating with SSCERT staff to resolve complex network issues affecting email, websites, and mailing lists.

The role requires hands-on experience with PCs/Mac, M365, HTML/JS/PHP/WordPress, and strong technical writing.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Arts and two-year relevant networking experience (Required)
  • Familiarity with PCs and Mac systems, software products (such as M365, Campus Security Software, Adobe, Google Apps). (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in systems analysis and assessing alternative solutions, developing and implementing plans (Required)
  • Demonstrated writing skills to enable the preparation of concise technical documentation (Required)
  • Familiarity with microcomputer network systems analysis and design methodology. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to set-up and maintain departmental web sites on the Internet using HTML, PHP, JavaScript, CSS and WordPress (Required)
  • Ability to create and present one-on-one or small group training programs for computer/network users. (Required)
  • Familiarity with support of networked mail. Knowledge of mail address in, file transfer and remote logon (Required)
  • Detailed knowledge in connecting to centralized services such as mainframes via terminal-emulation software (e.g. ITS, OASIS via Hummingbird). (Required)
  • Ability to install, configure and troubleshoot network computers, printers, interface cards (NICs) etc (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to prioritize and organize work understanding the relative importance of completing assignments in a timely manner in a large, complex environment. Able to follow through on projects and accomplish established goals (Required)
  • Ability to perform the physical functions of the position with reasonable accommodation. The physical functions of the position may require lifting items up to 50lbs, bending down and kneeling (Required)
  • Working Knowledge of Windows Active Directory. Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, Mac OS X. (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day instructional and user computer support for staff, faculty, and graduate students of the History Dept.
  • Plan, maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot and train users on departmental computer systems hardware and software.
  • Coordinate with SSCERT back-end staff to resolve complex network problems including email, mailing lists, and websites.

Position Summary

Under the coordinated supervision of the Associate Director of Social Sciences Center for Education, Research, and Technology and the Computer Resource Manager of the Department of History, provides day-to-day instructional and user computer support for staff, faculty, and graduate students of the Department of History. Responsibilities include planning, maintaining, upgrading, troubleshooting and providing basic user training for departmental computer systems hardware and software based upon changes in technology and evolving user needs and requirements; administering, coordinating and working jointly with other SSCERT back-end technical staff to establish, maintain and resolve complex network technical problems involving the sub division network, email systems, mailing lists and the departmental websites.
