Job summary

Salk's Hardware and Marine is seeking a Department Lead (Key Holder) to manage a department and assist with opening/closing duties. You will deliver excellent customer service, lead a small team, and coordinate daily store operations.

Ideal candidates have prior retail experience, hardware knowledge, and a high school diploma or GED. NHRA Advanced Course in Hardware Retailing is recommended for growth within the Ace Hardware network.

Qualifications

• Minimum of previous retail experience required.
• Hardware experience preferred.
• High School diploma or GED.
• NHRA Advanced Course in Hardware Retailing recommended.

Responsibilities

• Open/close the store 2-3 times per week, overseeing department duties.
• Oversee department projects and assist with special store initiatives.
• Keep sales floor, stock room, and outdoor areas clean and orderly.
• Ensure weekly price changes and label updates are completed timely.
• Assist in stocking and delivering merchandise to customers.
• Operate forklift or other lift machinery as needed.
• Support cycle counts and adjust inventory as required.
• Maintain stock levels to support in-store profitability.

Department Lead (Key Holder)

General Summary

The Department Lead manages overall operations within a specific department and the achievement of company goals and directives. The Department Lead also takes an active responsibility in opening and closing duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Customer Service

• Provide positive representation of the store
• Proactively assist customers in solving problems
• Greet customers entering and throughout the store. Thank customers when finished and when they are leaving the store
• Provide a friendly, outgoing demeanor; work well with customers as well as associates
• Ensure all calls and pages are answered promptly, courteously and effectively
• Handle customer complaints. Work to resolve problems with the customer and have store's best interest taken into consideration
• Possess excellent product knowledge and knowledge of store layout and location of products.

Store Operations

• Responsible for opening and closing the store 2-3 times a week
• Oversee projects specific to their department and assist with special projects within the store
• Assist with daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the sales floor, stock room and outdoor sales areas
• Ensure that weekly price changes and label updates are completed timely and accurately
• Assist in checking in, stocking and delivery to customers of all merchandise within the store
• Operate forklift or other lift machinery
• Perform all other duties as assigned
• Assist to ensure that cycle counts and negative on hand reports are completed timely and accurately.
• Assist in ordering and maintaining desirable product inventory levels to ensure in-stocks and store profitability
• Assist with merchandise resets throughout the store
• Assist to ensure all signage is current in the store
• Assist in presenting a clean and orderly sales floor, including end caps and promotional and incremental merchandising

Leadership

• Lead by example; be approachable by all associates and customers
• Participate in store meetings
• Communicate any merchandising, cost control or sales ideas to the Store Manager for follow up
• Prepare and challenge yourself for future advancement

Experience

• Previous retail experience required
• Hardware experience preferred

Education

High School or GED equivalent. Completion of NHRA Advanced Course in Hardware Retailing recommended.
