Job summary

Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) seeks a collaborative and innovative Department Chair to lead the Department of Leadership, Counseling, and Human Development. The role oversees undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs in educational leadership, school counseling, and child and youth studies, reporting to the College of Education Dean.

The Chair will guide faculty, manage resources, advance accreditation, and build external partnerships to enhance student success and scholarship.

Qualifications

• Earned Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership, School Counseling, Research, Human Development, or closely related field.
• Current rank of Associate Professor or Professor, or a record meeting qualifications for that rank.
• Strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service aligned with rank.

Responsibilities

• Provide vision, leadership, motivation, and supervision to the department and programs.
• Lead faculty recruitment and ensure staffing needs and expertise align with curricula and accreditation.
• Oversee accreditation compliance with state and federal agencies relevant to each program area.
• Foster research and scholarship and support professional growth and collaboration.
• Develop external partnerships with school districts and professional organizations to support goals.
• Plan and manage budgets, resources, and program evaluation to maintain quality.
