About the Job
The Department Administrator serves as the dyad partner to the Department Chair, directly responsible for strategic development, clinical management, faculty management, research, education, administration staff, departmental administration, and event planning/fund raising.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Strategic Partner & Project Management (20%)
- Partner with Department Chair to organize and implement strategic initiatives aligned with the mission of research, education, and service.
- Lead department collaboration across services including University of Minnesota Physicians, Fairview Health Services, M Health Fairview, and community partners.
- Implement new initiatives, strategic plans, and process improvements.
- Clinical Oversight & Management (25%)
- Develop and maintain clinical partnerships with M Health Fairview Neuroscience service line.
- Partner with UMP practice management/Fairview to optimize faculty clinical practice.
- Implement practice management standards and serve as liaison with UMP resources.
- Contribute to CSU budgeting, monitor budgets, and forecast in partnership with CSU leadership and UMP finance.
- Support department growth through collaboration with UMP business development teams.
- Assess and adjust clinical programs for effectiveness.
- Faculty Management (25%)
- Ensure faculty effort is balanced across teaching, research, and clinical duties.
- Partner with HR on faculty hiring, onboarding, and management.
- Oversee faculty governance, compensation, promotion, and tenure processes.
- Monitor faculty career development aligning with departmental goals.
- Research (5%)
- Develop research initiatives and manage research administration.
- Oversee research centers, resource needs, and infrastructure.
- Education (5%)
- Manage learner rotations, including U.S. and international scholars.
- Support graduate medical education and psychology programs.
- Oversee educational programs and organize key lectureships.
- Supervision, Communication & Facilities (10%)
- Lead administrative team supporting department needs.
- Recruit, develop, and assess staff.
- Ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
- Foster a culture of professionalism and accountability.
- Manage communication, facilities, and technology resources.
- Event Planning & Fundraising (10%)
- Support donor stewardship and prospect cultivation with UMF.
- Develop proposals for philanthropic funds.
- Organize department events and alumni activities.
This position is 40% on campus and 60% remote.
