Job summary

Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking a part‑time dentist to serve Hartwell and surrounding counties. The role involves clinical dentistry, treatment planning and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to protect public health.

The position requires a Doctorate in dentistry, a current Georgia license, and at least three years of experience. Travel to designated health districts may be required while supporting preventive care initiatives across communities.

Qualifications

• Doctorate or professional degree in dentistry from an accredited college or university.
• Three years of dental experience.
• Current Georgia license to practice dentistry.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, guides, and may instruct dental staff.
• Diagnoses, treats, prevents and controls disorders of the teeth and mouth including gums.
• May treat diseases of nerve, pulp and other dental tissues affecting vitality of teeth.
• Performs hygiene exams and dental exams; takes x‑rays; applies fluoride/sealants.
• Performs prophy, restorations and extractions; prescribes medications as needed.
• Keep records of health and treatment of patients; work with a team; travel as needed.

Schedule

2-3 days a week, within the hours of Monday, Wednesday or Thursday 8-5, Tuesday 8-7.

Job Responsibilities

• Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of staff.
• Diagnoses, treats, prevents and controls disorders of the teeth and mouth including gums and related oral structures.
• May treat diseases of nerve, pulp and other dental tissues affecting vitality of teeth.
• Perform hygiene exams
• Performs dental exams
• Take x-rays
• Apply fluoride and/or sealants
• Perform prophies, restorations and extractions
• Prescribe medications for dental problems
• Keep records relating to health and treatment of patients
• Work within an equal partnering team and may instruct dental and non-dental staff
• Experience with Pediatric dentistry
• Willingness to travel (potential reimbursement)
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Preferences

• Familiarity with Medicaid & Chips Program
• Comfortable with pediatric practices

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate or professional degree in dentistry from an accredited college or university AND Three years of experience AND current Georgia license to practice dentistry.
