Qualifications

  • Experience with patients who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, or other special needs, is preferred.
  • Strong clinical and behavioral management skills.

Access Dental Care—a North Carolina statewide non‑profit—is seeking dentists who want to do more than practice dentistry. We are looking for mission‑driven providers willing to deliver comprehensive care to patients with special healthcare needs, while also advocating for our profession, contributing to research, and educating other professionals on how to care for our unique patient population.

Responsibilities
  • Serve a designated territory radius of up to one and a half hours from the "home base", with transportation provided.
  • Foster a welcoming, respectful, and caring environment for patients and their loved ones.
  • Provide treatment to patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities, older adults residing in long‑term care facilities, and medically/behaviorally complex patients with sensitivity, professionalism, and clinical judgment.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, meeting patients "where they are" with flexible and empathetic care.
  • Apply behavioral management techniques (e.g., desensitization, positive reinforcement, or modified communication aids).
  • Lead as the clinical leader of a mobile dental team, including a hygienist and dental assistants.
  • Support and mentor team members to deliver compassionate, safe, and effective care in special care settings.
  • Accurately complete and maintain detailed treatment notes and clinical documentation.
  • Perform all duties with fiscal responsibility and efficient use of resources.
  • Deliver compassionate, high-quality dental care that meets the standard of care in general dentistry.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: $150,000 – $200,000 per year, depending on experience.
