Under the supervision of the Chief Dental Officer, you will perform simple and complex extractions, biopsies, alveoloplasties, and emergency care, while collaborating with staff dentists and external providers to coordinate patient treatment and ensure quality care.

Qualifications

  • Requires a MA dental license and degree (LLD/DMD/DDS/BDS).
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • OMFS residency or advanced education certificate required.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and diagnose oral/maxillofacial diseases and injuries.
  • Provide surgical treatment including extractions, biopsies, and alveoloplasties.
  • Deliver emergency dental services following proper referrals.
  • Collaborate with staff and external providers to coordinate patient care.
  • Mentor dental residents and ensure quality patient care.
  • Explain treatment options to patients/guardians clearly.
  • Document visits and treatment in the Electronic Dental Record.
  • Ensure compliance with DPH, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.

  • Pay or shift range: $156,894 USD to $267,500 USD
    The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.


Description

Under supervision of Chief Dental Officer, the oral surgery dentist will provide oral surgical therapy to the service area
population with a special emphasis on elimination of dental disease.


Essential Duties and Major responsibilities:



  • Evaluate and diagnose oral/maxillofacial diseases, injuries and defects

  • Provide oral surgical treatment for patients including but not limited to simple and complex tooth extractions, oral tissue biopsies, and alveoloplasties

  • Provides emergency dental services upon proper referral from triage

  • Collaborate with staff dentists to plan and coordinate patient treatment and help ensure quality patient care

  • Collaborate with external referring providers to properly meet the needs of surgical patients

  • Participates in mentorship of dental residents

  • Discuss and explain treatment to patients and/or guardians to their satisfaction and understanding

  • Record thoroughly all patient visits, treatment and communication with patients in the Electronic Dental Record

  • Communicate with administrative support team regarding scheduling follow up visits or referrals to specialty dentist

  • Participate in the dental quality assurance program

  • Ensure that DPH, OSHA and HIPAA regulations are strictly followed.

  • Knowledge of and adherence to all state and federal guidance on oral surgery

  • Comply with organizational safety rules and protocols. Reports all incidents immediately as required by organization

  • Ability to deal with sensitive information in a highly confidential manner

  • Consistently attend and participate in required staff meetings

  • Meet productivity standards

  • Willingness to be flexible in the development and implementation of new dental services

  • Possess effective communication skills, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, health care professionals, funders, and other regulatory agencies.

  • Have awareness of resources available within the health center to accommodate the needs of patients

  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment of the health center mission

  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the established CHC Values and Standards

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a LLD, DMD, DDS or BDS degree and a license to practice dentistry in Massachusetts.

  • Certified in CPR/AED or equivalent.

  • A certificate signifying completion of an OMFS Residency or Certificate in an Advanced Education Program in Oral Surgery is required. Recommendation is required from the program Director.

  • Proficiency in English (speak, read, and write).

  • Competencies: Individual departments will develop competencies which will be communicated and maintained through CHC’s performance evaluation system.


Environmental Working Conditions: The environment is a normal office environment of a busy Community Health Center.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to saliva and blood-borne pathogens. The employee
is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and
risk of radiation.


Physical and Mental Requirements: The physical and mental demands are representative of those that must be met by an
employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job with or without a reasonable accommodation. The individual
must be in good health of mind and body with the physical dexterity and vision suitable to accomplish the job duties outlined
above. Knowledge of proper patient transfer assistance is also required and the ability to lift as much as 25 pounds may be
necessary. Normal visual acuity and standard clerical dexterity to operate computers, printers, photocopiers, and fax
machines; moderate walking, standing, reaching, and stooping in order to accomplish everyday office tasks required.
