Job description

The general practice dentist serves as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures.

Dentist Basic Requirements

• A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine from an approved school, as recognized by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, completed in the year the course was finished. Approved schools include (1) U.S. and Canadian schools listed by CODA, or (2) foreign schools accepted by a licensing authority of a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia, with licensure including written and clinical exams. Applicants claiming foreign education must provide an ECFMG certificate.
• Completion or current participation in a residency program in general practice or specialty, or equivalent experience treating medically compromised patients.
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Maintenance of licensure registration is required for active practice.

Physical Requirements

Light lifting (under 15 pounds), moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), walking and standing for 4 hours each, rapid mental and muscular coordination, near vision correction (13" to 16" to Jaeger 1-4), one eye corrected to 20/20, other to 20/40, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid permitted).
