Dentist - Endodontist (Intermittent) - Mare Island

Summary
The Endodontist appointed to the Medical Staff of the VA Northern California Health Care System, assigned to Dental Service, is an independent, licensed practitioner holding a full and unrestricted license in any state. Endodontists will be graduates of an ADA-accredited dental school and, where applicable, will have completed an accredited residency in Endodontic Specialty.

Duties

Work Schedule: Variable work schedule (Intermittent hours). Shifts may vary depending on patient care needs.

The endodontist provides direct patient care in hospital or outpatient settings to adults, with or without acute and chronic medical conditions, and acts as a consultant to other healthcare providers. Responsibilities include interpretation of dental radiographs, diagnostic consultations, and clinical treatments within their privileges.

Major duties include:

  • Function as an integral member of the dental team.
  • Provide consultation and treatment within clinical privileges.
  • Educate and train medical staff via conferences, committees, and lectures.
  • Participate in administrative or managerial responsibilities through committees, task groups, or projects.

Requirements
Conditions of employment include:

  • Open to all qualified candidates, U.S. Citizens preferred; non-citizens may be considered if no qualified citizens are available.
  • Pre-employment drug screening required; refusal disqualifies employment.
  • Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Background/security investigation required.
  • Complete online onboarding; valid identification required, with restrictions on driver's licenses not REAL ID compliant after May 7, 2025.
  • Pre-employment physical exam required.
  • Participation in influenza vaccination program mandatory.

Qualifications
Applicants pending completion of educational or licensure requirements may be tentatively selected but not hired until all are met.

Dentist Basic Requirements include:

  • Degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine from an accredited school.
  • Completion of a residency or equivalent experience in general practice or specialty.
  • Current, full, unrestricted dental license in a U.S. state or territory.
Preferred experience includes completion of an Endodontic Residency Program.

Physical Requirements
Applicants must meet physical standards, including lifting, reaching, walking, standing, and visual and auditory requirements. A physical exam is required prior to placement. This is a drug testing position with ongoing random testing.

Education
Only education from accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is accepted. Foreign education must include a foreign equivalency certificate.
