Job summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) seeks a Dentist to serve in the Northern Region of the New Jersey Department of Corrections facilities. The Dentist will assess inmates at intake, chart findings in EMR, and develop initial treatment plans.

Duties include radiographic exams and delivering care ranging from emergency dental treatment to restorative and periodontal therapy within general dentistry. Full-time, on-site position with a 40-hour week.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Dentistry or an accredited university with a DDS or DMD degree.
• Currently licensed and current DEA certification.
• Computer literacy; a valid driver’s license. Possesses own vehicle or alternate means of transportation between sites.

Responsibilities

• Performs dental assessments on inmates upon intake to determine dental needs and urgency.
• Charts results in the Electronic Medical Record and develops initial plan of treatment.
• Performs and/or interprets radiographic exams.
• Provides dental treatment, including emergency treatment of teeth and surrounding soft tissues, such as oral surgery, restorative dentistry, and periodontal therapy, within the scope of a general dentist.
• Corrects significant oral problems that may adversely affect an inmate’s health.
