Job summary

Waco Family Medicine is seeking a Dentist to provide comprehensive dental care within a Federally Qualified Health Center setting. You will perform exams, diagnose, plan treatments, and deliver a wide range of dental services, including emergencies, while educating patients on oral health.

The role emphasizes patient-centered care, cultural competency, and collaboration with medical and behavioral health teams to improve overall health outcomes in a community-based environment.

Qualifications

• DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school.
• Current state dental license in good standing.
• Current DEA registration and CPR/BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive dental examinations, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
• Provide restorations, extractions, endodontic procedures, crowns, dentures, and periodontal care.
• Deliver emergency dental services and interpret radiographs.
• Educate patients on oral health and preventive strategies.
• Collaborate with medical and care coordination teams for integrated care.
• Maintain accurate EHR documentation and comply with regulations.

REPORTS TO: Chief Dental OfficerPosition SummaryThe Dentist provides comprehensive, high‑quality oral health care to patients in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting. This role emphasizes clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and service to diverse, underserved, and vulnerable populations. The Dentist works as part of an integrated care team to improve oral and overall health outcomes within a community‑based, mission-driven environment.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical CarePerform comprehensive dental examinations, diagnosis, and treatment planning.Provide general dental services including restorations, extractions, endodontic procedures, crowns, dentures/partials, periodontal treatments, and preventive care.Deliver emergency dental services, including pain management and urgent procedures.Interpret dental radiographs and other diagnostic results.Ensure adherence to evidence-based clinical guidelines and quality standards.Patient-Centered Care & EducationEducate patients on oral health, hygiene practices, treatment options, and preventive strategies.Engage in culturally competent communication with patients from diverse backgrounds.Promote patient involvement in treatment planning and shared decision‑making.Interdisciplinary CollaborationCollaborate with medical, behavioral health, and care coordination teams to support integrated care.Participate in case reviews, huddles, and care coordination activities as needed.Provide consultation to other health professionals regarding oral health concerns.Compliance & DocumentationMaintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).Comply with all FQHC, federal, state, and local regulations, including HRSA, UDS reporting standards, OSHA, and infection control protocols.Support quality improvement initiatives, including clinical audits and performance metrics.Community & Public Health EngagementParticipate in community outreach, school‑based programs, or mobile/teledentistry initiatives as assigned.Contribute to public health goals, oral health promotion, and population health strategies.RequiredDDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school.Current state dental license (or eligibility for licensure) and in good standing.Current DEA registration.CPR/BLS certification.Commitment to serving underserved communities and advancing health equity.PreferredExperience working in an FQHC, CHC, or public health environment.Proficiency with electronic dental records (EDR) systems.Experience with bilingual or multicultural populations.Eligibility for federal loan repayment programs (NHSC/LRP).Benefits & IncentivesCompetitive salaryMedical, dental and vision insurancePaid time off and holidaysRetirement - 5% Employer match (Cap $8,000).
