The role of the Dentist is to diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums, and related oral structures. The dentist examines patients to determine the nature of their conditions, utilizing x-rays, dental instruments, and other diagnostic procedures. Responsibilities include cleaning, filling, extracting, and replacing teeth using rotary and hand instruments, dental appliances, medications, and surgical implements. The dentist also provides preventive dental services, such as fluoride and sealant applications, and educates patients on oral and dental hygiene.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Treat patients at the hospital and designated sites diligently, knowledgeably, and skillfully, adhering to current standards of practice, applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
• Consult with other dentists or physicians on matters outside the dentist’s professional specialty.
• Serve as a preceptor for residents in the Advanced General Dentistry residency program as requested.
• Perform duties at SCH or other designated sites provided by the hospital.
• Comply with all SCH policies, rules, and regulations applicable to duties.
• Support and participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes, customer satisfaction, teamwork, patient safety, and resource utilization.
• Maintain membership in good standing with the Medical Staff of SCH, hold an unrestricted dental license in Kentucky, maintain Board Certification, and attend staff meetings and trainings as required.

Education: Doctor of Medical Dentistry.

Experience: As required for certification by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry.

Licensure/Certification: Certification in BLS, ACLS, licensed to practice dentistry in Kentucky.

Physical/Work Requirements: Must be able to sit, use hands, communicate effectively, and meet vision requirements. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.
