SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Dentist is responsible for administrative, operational and dental services provided at the Dental Clinic. In conjunction with the Vice President, Dental Services, the Dentist facilitates the development and implementation of systems, processes and standards of care for the patient population that are consistent with current evidence-based best practices, State and Federal statutes, funder’s requirements and health care trends. This position will manage the performance and productivity of dental providers and dental staff. Directs and supervises the dental clinic staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs assessments and procedures related to general dental care (preventive, restorative, periodontal, surgical, and prosthetic care )
  • Diagnoses and manages oral manifestations of HIV disease
  • Documents patient interventions and outcomes on appropriate chart forms in a legible manner and in accordance with current standards of practice and agency policies and procedures
  • Administers and prescribes medications appropriate for general dental care
  • Provides patient and staff education
  • Assists in the recruitment, training and evaluation of staff
  • Develops and oversees Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement Programs for dental services
  • Facilitates the continuity of care between patients and external providers
  • Oversees compliance with the managed care contracts
  • Participates in Business Development and Outreach efforts

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Doctor of Dental Surgery or Medicine and is licensed to practice in the state of New York. Experience in HIV dentistry. Bilingual English-Spanish preferred, but not required.Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with fellow healthcare providers. Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills required. Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
