JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Dentist

DEPARTMENT: Dental

SUPERVISED BY: Chief Dental Officer

SUMMARY:

Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate therapy, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or care in conformance with approved clinical privileges. Educates individuals on oral health conditions, health promotion, and prevention of oral disease.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Possess a Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from an accredited dental school.
2. Licensed in Louisiana. Knowledge of supervision principles and ability to apply them.
3. CPR certified.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain organized patient-dentist records, including referrals and data collection.
2. Participate in medical/dental staff meetings and quality assurance programs.
3. Assist in providing continuing education, training, and orientation for staff.
4. Provide technical assistance and health education to the community.
5. Work under supervision of the Dental Director; clinical work evaluated via Quality Assurance.
6. Perform functions related to dental medicine, education, prevention, cure, and rehabilitation, often simultaneously.
7. Manage risks including exposure to contagious diseases, adverse weather, hostile patients, dental materials, equipment, and radiation.
8. Educate and motivate individuals and groups regarding dental therapies.
