Primary Purpose

The Dental Sterilization Tech supports dental providers and staff by ensuring tools, equipment, and the clinic environment are sterile and clean according to organizational standards. The Tech communicates regularly with the Dental Director to provide updates on patient and clinic flow, ensuring patient coordination from registration to discharge. This role is a stepping stone to becoming a Dental Assistant, with an expectation to obtain Ohio Radiographer Licensure within 6 months of hire.

Essential Functions

• Coordinate and oversee patient flow, ensuring timely seating.
• Support daily scheduling to maximize efficiency, accommodating late, walk-in, and emergency patients.
• Assist dental team members including assistants, hygienists, and dentists.
• Ensure clinical areas meet quality and regulatory standards.
• Handle sterilization of instruments and tools after use.
• Prepare trays and set up for procedures.
• Clean and set up treatment rooms for scheduled procedures.
• Decontaminate and disinfect instruments, tray setups, and sterilization equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness of the facility, including lab areas and operatories.
• Document sterilization records accurately.
• Manage biohazards and sharps waste disposal properly.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and infection prevention standards.
• Demonstrate clinical competence in assigned functions.

Education and Certification Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain BLS certification within 6 months of employment.

Skills and Experience Requirements

• Interest in pursuing a dental career with willingness to participate in Dental Assistant training.
• Ohio State Dental Radiography license or license attainment within 6 months.
• Calm, professional demeanor and effective communication skills.
• Ability to work with a diverse patient population.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Physical Demands

• Frequent use of fine and gross motor skills.
• Lifting up to 50 lbs.
• 20% walking/standing, 80% sitting.
