Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Dental Assistant/Sterile Processing Technician who under supervision performs decontamination, cleaning, processing, sterilization and distribution of dental instruments in accordance with health standards and clinic policies.

Under the Central Sterilization Manager, the role ensures proper handling of instruments, compliance with regulatory requirements, and accurate record-keeping.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and one year of training or experience within specific work area.
• Certification in Radiation Safety required for positions responsible for dental x-rays.

Responsibilities

• Operates sterilization equipment and machinery to prepare, assemble and sterilize instruments per health standards.
• Handles and cares for instruments, selects cleaning agents, checks function and prepares for sterilization.
• Packages and inspects instruments for use, function, completeness and cleanliness.
• Retrieves contaminated instruments and delivers sterile ones to dental clinics as scheduled.
• Maintains records and monitors infection control standards, supports instrument management.
• Serves as back-up Dental Assistant for all dental clinics as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned by manager.
