Job description

Dental Outreach Dentist General Description

This position provides exams, restorative treatment, and simple extraction dental services to pediatric patients in our mobile dental unit around north central Kansas, while ensuring OSHA regulatory compliance. Travel withing the region is required.

Dental Outreach Dentist Essential Duties
  1. Perform exams, operative dentistry, and basic extractions on a mobile dental unit. The primary target population is K-12 students.
  2. Follow best practices for patient management, such as:
    1. Review patient medical history at every visit.
    2. Appropriately record dental conditions and oral health pathology during exams.
    3. Establish and document treatment plans as needed .
    4. Report findings and recommendations to parents, guardians, and school nurses as needed.
    5. Ensure that the necessary consents have been obtained before performing treatment. This informed consent will be documented in the patient’s chart.
    6. Identify urgent conditions and manage them appropriately.
    7. Make appropriate referrals to other dental clinics, dental specialists, or medical providers as needed.
    8. Maintain appropriate documentation in the electronic dental record.
    9. Meet clinical standards of practice as described in the Quality Assurance Program.
    10. Actively participate in all appropriate clinic-wide quality assurance program initiatives, including but not limited to chart audits, clinical quality measures, and patient satisfaction metrics.
  3. Integrates patient education into dental appointments:
    1. Utilize dental assistants or other dental staff for patient education.
    2. Promote healthy oral hygiene and dietary practices with pediatric patients.
    3. Give verbal advice and written handouts as needed.
  4. Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
  5. Attend required meetings and participate in in committees as requested.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.
Dental Outreach Dentist Skills Required
  1. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, and the public.
  2. Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and regulations.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  4. Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and prioritize workload.
  5. Ability to anticipate and react calmly in an emergency is a must.
  6. Ability to follow written policies and procedures.
  7. Ability to work independently and use good judgment.
Dental Outreach Skills Required Education and Experience
  1. Current Kansas Dentist License;
  2. 1-3 years of experience preferred;
  3. Prior experience with pediatric population preferred;
  4. Current KS driver’s license and proof of current auto insurance required;
  5. Willingness to educate patients and the community in health maintenance and the role of healthcare team;
  6. Must have and maintain CPR certification;
  7. Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient and employee-base.
