Job title: Part‑Time Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)

Reports to: Chief Dental Officer

Status: Part‑Time, Non‑Exempt (Contract/Hourly: $40.38 - $52.88/hr)

As a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) with Heartland Community Health Center, you will provide vital preventive dental care, including cleanings, sealants, X-rays, and assessments.

You'll help remove barriers to care, foster trust, and create lifelong dental patients by delivering high-quality oral health services in an accessible, culturally competent way. Duties and Responsibilities

Provide preventive and rehabilitative caries control and periodontal services, including:

• Routine prophylaxis and topical application
• Apply SDF as needed
• Use ART technique to place interim restorations as needed
• Scaling and root planing
• Remove overhangs of filling materials
• Properly expose, process, and mount oral radiographs
• Polish restorations
• Use local anesthetic for procedures as needed and within scope of practice
• Promote an atmosphere of good dental and general health by demonstrating good personal oral hygiene
• Educate patients on techniques of flossing, brushing, overall oral health, and the role of the dental care team
• Clean and sterilize instruments appropriately and follow infection control protocols and standard operating procedures
• Complete required daily, monthly, and annual equipment maintenance
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Perform applicable lab duties, including pouring and trimming models and fabricating trays
• Remove biohazard trash as needed in accordance with established procedures
• Answer patient inquiries related to pain and/or medications within scope and established protocols
• Perform all duties in accordance with OSHA regulations and remain attentive to patient needs
• Use appropriate safety precautions to protect patients and self while completing clinical charting and care
• Document existing caries and restorations, missing teeth, and prostheses
• Complete periodontal assessments including probing depths, recession, mobility, and furcation involvement
• Complete head and neck examinations, including identification/ documentation of soft tissue pathology
• Properly make oral radiographs and take necessary precautions to minimize unnecessary radiation exposure
• Educate patients on oral health maintenance and prevention, including brushing, flossing, plaque control, and diet
• Educate patients or guardians on the benefits of fluoride
• Participate in professional training from internal and external sources to strengthen skills and support integration of dental services in the primary care setting
• Attend meetings as required, including Joint Staff and department meetings
• Complete assigned trainings in a timely manner
• Rotate to Medical Clinic settings to support medical/dental integration
• Empower medical teams to deliver dental screenings to medical patients. Establish team relationships and coordinate bi-directional warm handoffs to and from specialty dental according to established protocols
• Maintain established productivity expectations during scheduled patient-facing hours, with a goal of treating no less than one patient per patient-facing hour in the clinic setting and no less than two patients per patient-facing hour in the community-based care setting. Designated administrative time is excluded from patient-facing productivity calculations
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Graduate of a certified Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) program
• Current Kansas RDH license required
• Minimum Of One Year Of Experience Preferred
• Current CPR certification required and must be maintained
• Demonstrated sensitivity to the social and cultural needs of diverse populations
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks to deliver efficient, high-quality patient care
• Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in emergency or high-pressure situations
• Strong knowledge of HIPAA privacy regulations and ability to follow written policies and procedures
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, databases, electronic health records, and standard office equipment
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Strong organizational, time management, and problem‑solving abilities
• Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and adapt to fast-paced, changing environments
