Summary

The Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) is a Level 1b facility serving the VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21). It offers comprehensive health care services including Dentistry, Geriatrics and Extended Care, Imaging, Medicine Services, Mental Health Services, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service, Primary Care, Radiation Oncology, Rehabilitation Services, Specialty Services, and Surgery.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of 05/23/2025. Current federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements. For GS-5, one year of service at GS-6 is required, demonstrated via SF-50 documentation. Additional qualifications include:

• Experience with dental laboratory materials and equipment, construction of dental prosthetic appliances, or successful completion of a relevant 4-year apprenticeship.
• Specialized experience at GS-6 involves waxing dentures, blocking out master casts, and finishing metal frameworks under supervision.
• At GS-7, experience includes effective communication using dental terminology, use of laboratory materials and equipment, and construction of dental prosthetic appliances, or equivalent education and combined education and experience.
• GS-8 requires experience similar to GS-7 but at a higher level of responsibility.

Experience and Physical Requirements

Experience includes volunteer work, which is credited. The work is primarily sedentary but involves some physical activity, requiring agility and dexterity.

Duties

• Pouring crown and bridge impressions, fabricating die models, investing cases, and estimating metal needs.
• Surveying master casts, identifying undercuts, designing restorations, and developing advanced lab skills including CAD/CAM technology.
• Promotion potential to full performance level is possible.
• Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (subject to change). This is not a virtual position.
