Base pay range

$35.00/hr - $45.00/hr

Summary: Provide quality dental care and associated services to patients under the general supervision of a dentist and using established dental hygiene procedures. The dental hygienist will assist other staff in a variety of patient care, office and laboratory duties. The dental hygienist will also perform broad responsibilities for clinic and community dental health education activities.

Reports To : Dental Director

Supervises : No

Dress Requirement : Scrubs accordance with Heart of Ohio Family Health’s (HOFH) dress code policy

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday during standard business hours, may include some non-standard hours.

Job Duties : These are considered essential to the successful performance of this position:

  • Provide direct patient care and dental services as trained, licensed, and assigned, including patient assessment through approved screening procedures (e.g., medical history review, dental and periodontal charting).Evaluate oral health for signs of periodontal disease, cancer, or other concerns, such as recessed gums, bleeding, and lesions.
  • Perform procedures according to treatment plans, including prophylaxis, scaling, root planning, debridement, fluoride treatments, and sealant applications.
  • Ensure positive patient experiences with compassionate care, meeting physical, psychosocial, and safety needs.
  • Manage and maintain accurate, timely patient records in compliance with HIPAA and clinic policies.
  • Assist with emergency measures for adverse events during treatment.
  • Ensure accurate billing submissions for favorable collection outcomes.
  • Instruct patients and families on oral hygiene and post-treatment care.
  • Prepare and maintain dental instruments, materials, and equipment; take and process x-rays.
  • Provide chairside assistance to the dentist, including organizing instruments and supporting procedures.
  • Offer support and backup for Patient Services Representatives (PSRs) as needed, performing related administrative tasks.
  • Develop positive working relationships with staff, dentists, and patients, providing culturally appropriate care.
  • Uphold the organization’s mission and values while adhering to all policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of dental procedures, infection control, sterilization, and tray setup

Job Qualifications: (Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a dental hygiene program

Registration/Licensure

  • Currently Registered Dental Hygienist with Ohio Licensure. Current CPR and radiation safety certification. Certification to administer local anesthetics is preferred.

Experience

  • Demonstrated success with clear thinking and ability to reorganize as needed.
  • Demonstrated success in working independently, prioritization and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated success in organization abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in computer skills including ability to use computer for scheduling, word documents and reasonable keyboard skills.
  • Demonstrated success in customer service/patient services or working with the general public, preferably in a medical or dental care facility.
  • Demonstrated success in managing difficult customer situations
  • Knowledge of dental practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated success and experience with direct patient services and the proper knowledge and use of dental care devices and equipment.

Facility Environment

Heart of Ohio Family Health operates in multiple sites in the Columbus, OH area. All facilities are a medical office environment with front-desk reception area, separate patient examination rooms, pharmacy stock room, business offices, hallways and private toilet facilities. All facilities are ADA compliant.

This Position’s Area Is

  • kept at a normal working temperature
  • sanitized daily
  • maintains standard office environment furniture with adjustable chairs
  • maintains standard office equipment; ie, computer, copier, fax machine, etc. at a normal working height

  • Hearing = ability to accurately hear and react to the normal tone of a person’s voice
  • Visual = ability to safely and accurately see and react to factors and objects in a normal setting
  • Speaking = ability to pronounce words clearly to be understood by another individual
