Job description

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs external and internal oral evaluations and records comprehensive periodontal and restorative dental charting.
  2. Performs prophylactic treatments and provides services that may involve placement of sub-gingival agents, periodontal probing, scaling (manual or mechanical to remove plaque, calculus, or stains), root planning, and full mouth debridement.
  3. May administer pain control agents such as topical anesthetic, Oraquix, and/or local anesthesia (in accordance with relevant permits).
  4. Applies caries preventative agents including topical fluoride trays and varnish, dental sealants, desensitizing agents to root surfaces, and places temporary restorations when necessary.
  5. Exposes and processes dental radiographs.
  6. Provides patient education and home care protocols by discussing and demonstrating homecare techniques and products as part of an individualized self-care program.
  7. May include counseling on nutrition and tobacco cessation to maintain oral health.
  8. Completes new medical questionnaires annually.
  9. Updates and reviews medical history and completes all electronic medical record screenings at each visit.
  10. Cleans and sterilizes instruments and disinfects dental equipment and operatory.
  11. Maintains operatory and clinic cleanliness, monitors supply expiration dates.
  12. Maintains current professional license and skills through continuing education, mandatory training, and performance improvement activities.
  13. Attends and participates in monthly meetings.
  14. Monitors own schedule, communicates with scheduling staff to manage cancellations and open slots.
  15. Assists in other areas as appropriate and as time permits.
  16. Responds to patient questions and concerns.
