The Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a Dental Hygienist to work at the main hospital location in Lawrenceville. The Dental Hygienist, under general supervision and in accordance with established policies and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Dental Law, performs paraprofessional duties to preserve dental health and prevent dental disease.

This position may require up to 5% travel to Children's satellite locations.

Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate and complete information to parents and doctors, maintaining professionalism and thorough charting of patient data.
• Instruct patients and parents on proper oral hygiene.
• Take and develop radiographs of diagnostic quality for review by the dentist.
• Perform housekeeping duties, including stocking work areas and managing spills and accidents.
• Administer topical anesthetics, rubber dam placement, and occlusal sealants, using four-handed dental assisting techniques if assisting.
• Teach dental hygiene students from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine.
• Greet, seat, and assist patients; perform scaling, polishing, and apply topical fluoride; prepare electronic documents such as discharge summaries and excuses.
• Maintain equipment and supplies as directed.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma required.
• Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program.
• Dental hygiene experience preferred.
• Technical skills in scaling, polishing, chairside assistance, and other dental hygiene duties.
• Ability to interact effectively with doctors, patients, families, and students to communicate hygiene status and instruct dental students.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• CPR certification based on AHA standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration within 30 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
• Dental Hygienist licensure.
