Job description

This Dental Hygienist position is located at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro, NC, which is a Diagnostic Processing Center that houses approximately 850 medium, custody male offenders. The Dental Hygienist reports to the Dentist at Craven Correctional. Position is responsible for performing the following duties under the general supervision of a licensed dentist.

  • Examining teeth of patients and makes referrals to dentist.
  • Applies topical fluorides and performing dental prophylaxis in the prevention of dental diseases.
  • Records findings and maintains records on dental status and services rendered to patients.
  • Instructs patients on the proper care of teeth.
  • Recommends measures for the prevention of dental diseases.
Assists the dentist in planning and carrying out dental health programs.

**This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. **Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.**

They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
