Position Details

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a Dental Hygienist to work at the main hospital in Lawrenceville. The role involves 4, 10-hour shifts per week, with no weekends or holidays. Travel to the North Satellite may occasionally be required.

Responsibilities

1. Provide accurate and complete information to parents and doctors, maintaining professionalism and thorough charting of patient data.
2. Instruct patients and parents on proper oral hygiene practices.
3. Take and develop radiographs of diagnostic quality for review by the dentist.
4. Perform housekeeping duties, including stocking work areas and managing spills and accidents.
5. Place topical anesthetics, rubber dams, and occlusal sealants, using four-handed dental assisting techniques if assisting.
6. Teach hygiene students from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine.
7. Greet and seat patients, perform scaling and polishing, apply fluoride, and prepare electronic documents such as discharge summaries and school/work excuses.
8. Maintain equipment and supplies as directed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program.
• Dental hygiene experience preferred.
• Technical skills in scaling, polishing, chairside assistance, and other dental hygiene duties.
• Ability to interact effectively with doctors, patients, families, and students.

Licensure and Certifications

• CPR certification according to AHA standards within 30 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
• Dental Hygienist licensure.
