Dental Assistant (Tecumseh - Norman, OK)

Position Summary

Dental assistants greatly increase the efficiency of the dentist in the delivery of quality oral health care and are valuable members of the dental care team. They assist in providing direct patient care across various dental specialties, including orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, and oral surgery. Responsibilities include assisting the dentist, setting up and maintaining equipment, and preparing patients for treatment from start to finish of their appointment.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare patients for dental procedures, ensuring their comfort before, during, and after treatment.
  • Manage patient flow efficiently.
  • Set up instrument trays, prepare materials, and assist the dentist during procedures.
  • Take and expose dental diagnostic x-rays, maintaining proper care and guidelines for x-ray sensors.
  • Record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
  • Chart treatments in Patient Management Software.
  • Assist the dentist in managing medical or dental procedures.
  • Provide preoperative explanations and postoperative instructions as prescribed.
  • Record treatment information, fabricate temporary restorations, and create impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations.
  • Prepare whitening trays, clean and polish removable appliances, and apply fluoride treatments.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene strategies.
  • Ensure proper patient dismissal and handoffs to other departments.
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments and operatories.
  • Manage dental supply inventory and assist with safety and compliance protocols.
  • Adhere to all company, OSHA, and HIPAA policies and regulations.
  • May be required to relocate or perform administrative and maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Dental Assisting Program or at least one year of experience as a Dental Assistant.
  • Current Dental Assisting Permit, CPR Certification, and X-Ray Certification.
  • Proficiency with Eaglesoft and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and compliance with motor vehicle checks if operating company vehicles.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, sterilization, infection control, CDT codes, and dental procedures.
  • Vaccination against Hepatitis B or a signed declination form.
