A leading healthcare provider is seeking a Dental Assistant Supervisor to manage and train dental assistants, ensuring high-quality patient care and compliance with health standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dental assisting, excellent communication skills, and be bilingual in English and Spanish. This role involves overseeing staff performance, conducting audits, and participating in patient outreach programs.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION::The Dental Assistant Supervisor works closely with the Chief Dental Officer (CDO) in assuring the dental assistants supporting the providers are competent, properly scheduled, and efficient in the use of their time to eliminate or minimize overtime at all sites which includes the Child Care Mobile. Works with the Chief Human Resources /Corporate Compliance Officer in the management of personnel. Ensure appropriate trainings are in place to develop superior performance from dental assistants. Conducts infection control related audits, radiology (digital sensor) quality assurance audits, and clinic audits. Attends monthly organizational meetings, departmental meetings, and conducts dental assistant staff meetings. Assists in the inventory management workflow. Works under the supervision and direction of the Chief Dental Officer and is available to manage subordinates in support of clinic hours and locations. On an emergency basis, may assist in dental assisting. Appropriately manages patient information and demonstrates proper use of patient centered medical home principles, policies, and procedures. Reinforces dentist’s instructions and encourages patient follow through and patient participation in the decision-making process. May participate in outreach events at schools and educational programs. As a member of the clinical team, this position requires excellent team communication and total support of the PCMH principals, policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (with or without accommodations)
Patient relationship: Trains dental assistants to greet and welcome the patient in a pleasant, respectful, cultural and linguistically appropriate manner. Assures dental assistants respond to patient’s questions within their scope of practice and to respond in a positive and cordial manner. Responds quickly to patient’s problem/complaint in coordination with CDO, the dentist or hygienist. Trains the dental assistants to reinforce the patients the importance of keeping appointments or communicating changes in their appointments.
Management of personnel: Works with the Chief Human Resources /Corporate Compliance Officer in the selection and hiring of qualified registered/certified dental assistants, managing all aspects of the personnel to include supervision, counseling, training, time and attendance, discipline and up to termination. Develops and maintains a work schedule for all dental assistants, and reviews their time sheets for accuracy, overtime, and allocation of accruals with concurrence from the CDO. Complete annual Performance Reviews on registered dental assistants, evaluates job performance regularly, and addresses performance or behavior that does not meet expectations.
Training of Dental Assistants: Trains and conducts competency assessment to make sure the dental assistants are functioning as expected. Will be responsible for ensuring that dental assistants adhere to Su Clinicas’ board-approved annual training calendar, achieving 100% compliance. Teaches and adheres to infection control measures to maintain a safe environment for patients. Ensure proper cleaning, sterilizing and packaging of dental instruments following treatment as well as proper operatory disinfection. Trains in the use of PPE. Dental assistants will be competent in taking the patient’s history and vital signs, reviewing charts under the direction of Dentist or Hygienist and obtain and place results in chart. This position will provide oversight that the patient record is completed timely and is current. Will evaluate worksites making sure there is adherence to all HIPAA regulations in and outside of the Clinic. Provides oversight to ensure daily, weekly, and monthly logs are complying.
Team Communication: Communicates with all personnel in an effective and respectful manner. Any changes in the operations, policies, expectations are provided in a timely manner. Meets with the team to ensure that the clinical support needs are available. Actively participates in morning or afternoon huddles, along with the dentist, assistants and front desk clerks to prepare for the patients scheduled and reviews opportunities for same day access. Conducts the orientation of new employees or students. Works with unit team members as well as other clinic personnel to ensure a smooth patient flow. Communicates specific patient needs and/or population management information.
Demonstration of Safe and Professional Conduct: Complies with Clinic leave policy. Establishes favorable relationships and a friendly working environment with all staff members. Refrains from texting and speaking on the cell phone while on duty. Must always adhere to a professional appearance in dress and behavior/conduct. Maintains a current and active license. Submits required documentation in a timely manner (credentialing requirements, license renewals, certifications, CDE attendance, etc.). Responds to emergency situations as per training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Graduate of a dental assisting program. Must have minimum of two years’ work experience. Current licensure as a registered dental assistant in the State of Texas is required. Must be computer literate. Must be current with BLS/CPR. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Due to the nature of SCF Services, it may be necessary for employees to work extended hours or other variations of the usual shift to ensure adequate care to patients and to maintain service to the community.
