Responsibilities*

Assist in a wide variety of chair-side surgical procedures using the principles of four-handed dentistry. Specializing in the treatment of medically and/or mentally compromised patients while working with dental students, residents and faculty. Perform general assisting duties that include processing contaminated/sterile instruments, set up/tear down Operating Room and treatment rooms, seat patients and prepare for treatment, assist with preliminary health and physicals prior to treatment, take vitals, obtain consents. Coordinate and maintain the inventory, ordering and distribution of dental supplies, instruments and equipment. Expose and develop radiographs according to standard procedures or specific instructions Clean, disinfect and arrange work surfaces, storage cabinets, sinks and dispensing areas. Coordinate the proper maintenance and set-up or dental equipment and operations Process patient cared orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas. Assist patient in scheduling on the phone or in person. Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

Requires a certificate of completion from an accredited dental assisting program. Knowledge of OSEH standards and aseptic techniques. Registration as a dental assistant (RDA). A minimum of 2 years of experience as a dental assistant. Reasonable knowledge of dental clinic practices and procedures. BLS certification. Radiation certification. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills. Excellent ability to multitask. Excellent attendance record.

Desired Qualifications*

Some knowledge of School of Dentistry and University of Michigan policies, practices, and regulations. An Associate's degree in Dental Assisting.

Work Locations

This position is located at the School of Dentistryat 1011 N University.
