Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) seeks a Dental Assistant to perform direct and indirect patient care in a correctional setting. You will support supervising dentists and contribute to inmate dental services within a secure facility.

Responsibilities include radiography, sterilization, patient education, and intricate scheduling with the dental team. A current Texas dental assistant registration and CPR are required.

Qualifications

• Dental assistant registration must be current and maintained with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.
• CPR certification must be current.

Responsibilities

• Takes and records patient health history and vital signs; performs radiography, dental lab procedures, inmate dental health orientation and education.
• Assists in preventive, periodontic, restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic and oral surgery procedures; records clinical observations and treatment data.
• Maintains clinic orderliness; sterilizes instruments; maintains inventory and logs for hazardous materials.
• Operates PCs to enter data, generate reports, draft routine correspondence, and develop admin analyses on request.
• Provides administrative support including filing, routing calls/mail, scanning, emailing, and faxing information.
• Uses scheduling program to manage daily sick calls and appointments; prepares impressions for the dental lab; tracks prosthetic cases.
• Receives, stores, distributes and inventories dental department supplies; checks contents against invoices and purchase orders.
• Maintains inventory of all dental equipment and adheres to internal controls.
• Performs related duties as required.
