Job summary

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Two years of dental assisting experience is required.
• X-ray certification is required.
• CPR certification is preferred.
• Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) is preferred.
• Pediatric dental experience is preferred.
• Bilingual skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients, treatment rooms, instruments and materials for procedures.
• Assist with dental procedures as delegated by dentists, faculty, residents and students.
• Maintain patient comfort and safety; educate patients on oral health.
• Manage supplies and support clinic schedules.
• Follow OSHA and safety requirements in the Pediatric Department.

Job description

Chief Purpose:

The Dental Assistant supports patient care in the Pediatric Department by preparing patients, treatment rooms, instruments and materials; assisting with dental procedures as delegated by dentists, faculty, residents, and students; maintaining patient comfort; educating patients on oral health; managing supplies; supporting clinic schedules; and following OSHA and safety requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Required

• Knowledge of dental procedures and terminology
• Ability to perform four-handed dentistry and anticipate patient and provider needs
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced clinical environment
• Ability to work efficiently and accurately

Education and Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent, required
• Two years of dental assisting experience, required
• X-ray certification, required
• CPR certoification, preferred
• Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), preferred
• Pediatric dental experience, preferred
• Bilingual skills, preferred
