GENESYS Health Alliance is seeking a Part-Time Dental Assistant for Pamunkey Regional Jail in Hanover, VA. The role supports the Dentist and Dental Hygienist in chairside dentistry within a correctional setting, preparing instruments, operating radiographic equipment, and maintaining the operatory.

Requires graduation from an accredited dental assistant program and a VA license or ability to obtain it; Basic Life Support certification; willingness to obtain security clearance; 4P-8P

Qualifications

• Graduation from a nationally accredited dental assistant program.
• Virginia DA license or ability to obtain.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a dental assisting program or at least six months of experience in dental assisting.
• Current Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist with treatment of inmates in a correctional setting.
• Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and maintain the operatory.
• Operate radiographic equipment and manage dental supplies.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow sanitation procedures.
• Assist with administrative tasks as needed.

Salary Range: $25.00 To $25.00 Hourly

About this position:

The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing care for and treating detainees in a correctional setting. The Dental Assistant works under the direct supervision, assisting the Dentist and/or Dental Hygienist in chairside dentistry in a correctional setting. Additional responsibilities include preparing and sterilizing dental instruments, preparing and maintaining the dental operatory, operating radiographic equipment, and additional administrative tasks as needed.

Education

Requires graduation from a nationally accredited dental assistant program.

PRN Availability

General Duties: (not limited to but includes)

The Dental Assistant should be able to perform all of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the job performance requirements

Assists the dentist with the treatment of inmates/residents by setting up all instruments for each patient and treatment to be rendered and preparing impressions and filling materials.

After each treatment, sterilize the dental unit and instruments used and replace instruments prior to the next patient treatment.

Control medication, syringes and other dental supplies or equipment; inventory as required by established procedures

Keep equipment and work area clean; utilize appropriate sanitation methods.

Review dental services provided to prevent the inappropriate use or duplication of services.

Review status of inmates/residents for completion of all necessary intervention and treatments and services.
