Job summary

Orlando VA Healthcare System is seeking a skilled Dental Assistant to support dentists across multiple Orlando sites. The role requires four-handed dentistry proficiency and the ability to assist with oral surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, and implants, while handling clinical and clerical duties.

The position is full-time, with a Monday–Friday schedule, and may require evenings or weekends with notice. Travel between VA locations in the Orlando area is possible to ensure coverage.

Qualifications

• ADA CODA-accredited dental assistant program completed.
• Minimum one year dental assisting experience.
• Competency in four-handed dentistry and support for specialty procedures.
• Dental Radiographic Certificate required.
• Current BLS and CPR certification.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

• Chairside assisting: set up and turnover of operatories; pass instruments; maintain sterile field; assist in routine and specialty procedures.
• Dental imaging: produce diagnostic-quality images with proper radiation safety; minimize retakes.
• Infection control: follow protocols for setup/cleanup and imaging; prepare instruments for sterilization; document equipment per policy.
• Direct patient care: suture removal, impressions, temporary crowns/bridges, polishing, patient education.
• Patient safety: verify identity, conduct time-outs, monitor during treatment and sedation per Joint Commission.
• Dental laboratory functions: pour impressions; prepare study models; denture trays.
• Clerical support: schedule appointments; manage cancellations; assist with charting and treatment plans; other duties as assigned by Chief of Dental Services.
• Customer service: maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and VA computer security.
