The University of Michigan seeks a Dental Assistant for the School of Dentistry in Ann Arbor. Graduate Orthodontics: Assist in a wide variety of chairside procedures in the graduate orthodontic clinics. Assist and provide guidance to the graduate residents and faculty with orthodontic procedures. Set up prior to treatment and anticipate provider's needs for each procedure during treatment. Take digital radiographs, according to standard procedures or specific instructions. Maintain cubicle stock of dental supplies along with dental suction lines and traps. Prepare instrument cassettes for central sterilization and maintain sterilization areas. Prepare instruments, materials and work surfaces for use by the providers. Take and/or retrieve instrument carts from central sterilization. Take lab coats to basement to be laundered. Report equipment repair and maintenance needs. Follow current infection control standards pertaining to OSHA and HIPPA guidelines.
Predoctoral Orthodontics: Assure Monday and Tuesdays the chairs are set up by 9:00 am. Prepare instruments and materials for use by the dental students as needed. Work with attending faculty for supply needs (i.e. cameras, intraoral scanners). On Thursday mornings set up the clinic by 9:00 am (chairs, scanners, cassettes). Assist the dental students with dental procedures. Work with PreDoctoral Director on entering the rotation list into MiDent. Enter rotation change requests from the students into MiDent. Expose and process dental xrays including panoramic films. Assist the attending faculty in training of dental students as needed. Provide an attendance sheet to attending faculty for students sign in. Respond to emails from students regarding schedule changes, informing attending faculty. Stock and maintain cubicles, prepare instruments for sterilization. Take lab coats to basement to be laundered. Report equipment repair and maintenance needs. Follow current infection control standards pertaining to OSHA and HIPPA guidelines.
At least 2 years dental experience. Knowledge of dental clinic practices and procedures. Must be CPR certified. Must hold a Radiography Certification (xray). Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, faculty, residents and staff at all times. Possess current knowledge of infection control standards pertaining to OSHA and Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA). Excellent communication skills and attendance record. Ability to multi-task and have attention to detail. Willingness to work as a team player for the delivery of excellent patient care.
Experience working within a dental health care setting. Knowledge of orthodontic dental procedures. Experience with School of Dentistry policies and MiDent software. Certificate of completion from an accredited dental assisting program.
