A leading university seeks a Dental Assistant to support orthodontic and pediatric procedures in their clinics. The role involves chairside assistance, preparation of instruments, and contributing to patient care, with an emphasis on teamwork and adherence to safety standards. Candidates should have dental experience and relevant certifications.
Orthodontics: Assist in a variety of chairside procedures in the graduate orthodontic clinic on Wednesdays and in the craniofacial clinic on Fridays. Support and guide graduate residents and faculty with orthodontic procedures. Prepare and position patients for treatment, set up prior to procedures, and anticipate provider needs. Take digital radiographs following standard or specific instructions. Maintain cubicle stock of dental supplies, including suction lines and traps. Prepare instruments for sterilization and for provider use. Report equipment repair and maintenance needs. Follow infection control standards per OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.
Pediatric Dentistry: Assist with chairside procedures using four-handed dentistry principles in the graduate and undergraduate pediatric dentistry clinics (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays). Support residents, dental students, and faculty with patient sedation and pediatric procedures. Assist with oral examinations, charting, and operative procedures. Prepare patients for treatment, stock cubicles, and prepare instruments for sterilization. Enter patient data into the system, expose and process dental X-rays, including panoramic films. Assist in training dental students. Follow infection control standards per OSHA and HIPAA. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements include at least 2 years of dental experience, knowledge of clinic practices, CPR certification, Radiography Certification, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task and work as part of a team. Experience in a dental healthcare setting, knowledge of orthodontic procedures, familiarity with School of Dentistry policies and MiDent software, and completion of an accredited dental assisting program are preferred.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between U-M and UMMAP, which addresses wages, benefits, hours, and employment conditions.
