Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a Dental Assistant to support inmate dental care. You will chairside assist, expose and develop X-rays, and help manage instruments, supplies, and patient records in a clinic setting.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Dental Assistance or ADA-accredited training required.
• DANB CDA certification or equivalent preferred along with X-ray certification.
• One year of dental assistant experience with certification may be required per posting.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care to inmate population and maintains dental health delivery services.
• Prepares patient for treatment and provides chairside assistance for all dental procedures.
• Operates dental equipment as necessary for patient care.
• Exposes, develops and mounts/files dental X-ray images.
• Prepares and maintains dental X-ray developing solutions.
• Maintains equipment and sterilizes instruments and materials.
• Cleans working areas and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
• Maintains dental patient records and schedules appointments.
• Maintains inventory of clinic dental supplies and requests additional items as needed.
• Keeps statistical reports on clinical activities and performs clerical duties as necessary.
• Assists with providing dental care to other clinics statewide as needed.
