Job summary

The State of South Carolina's Department of Corrections is seeking a dental assistant to support inmate dental care. Under supervision, you will prepare patients, assist dentists chairside, expose and mount X-rays, sterilize instruments, and maintain dental records.

You may travel to statewide clinics as needed. Qualifications include an associate degree in dental assistance or ADA-certified training; other options include a high school diploma with relevant coursework and CDA/DANB credentials.

Qualifications

• An associate degree in Dental Assistance or one year of formal training in an ADA accredited course.
• High school diploma with ADA accredited training and one year of dental assistant experience with certification in dental x-ray.
• High school diploma, DANB CDA certification, and two years’ experience as a dental assistant with certification in dental x-ray.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care to inmate population and maintains dental health delivery services at assigned dental clinic.
• Prepares patients for treatment and provides chairside assistance for all dental procedures.
• Operates dental equipment as necessary for the care and treatment of patients.
• Exposes, develops and mounts/files dental X-rays.
• Prepares and maintains dental X-ray developing solutions.
• Maintains equipment by cleaning and lubricating dental hand pieces, suction lines, etc.
