Major Responsibilities:
Standard Dental Assistant activities and comprise responsibilities
- Assists the dentist at chairside using 4-handed technique for the transfer of instruments and materials.
- Ensures that all instruments and supplies are available for the planned procedure.
- Maintains a dry working area for the dentist using suction.
- Exposes and processes dental radiographs.
- Sets-up and breaks-down the treatment room between patients.
- Maintains tray set-ups for various dental procedures.
- Ensures instruments and equipment are properly disinfected/sterilized between patients.
- Insures assigned treatment room is adequately stocked and always maintained.
- Performs laboratory duties which include pouring up, trimming and separating models.
- Participates in assigned duties which include drug cabinet maintenance, lab cleaning, gas level checks, spore testing, autoclave cleaning, etc.
- Provides dental assistant support for the operating room as a dental scrub nurse.
Performs other clinical support tasks on patients, as requested
- Performs coronal polishing on patients scheduled for dental cleanings.
- Applies pit and fissure sealants on children's teeth which meet specific criteria, as determined by the dentist.
Non-clinical activities which are standard for all associates.
- Attends all mandatory in-services and education days.
- Performs quality management activities which include pulling patient records for chart audits, validating dental assistant competency, etc., as requested.
- Completes all required safety and survey obligations.
Education/Experience Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent. 1-2 years dental assistant.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Good communication skills. Good customer service skills.
- Current CPR certification. (Will provide upon hire)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Current CPR certification. (Will provide upon hire)
- Completion of Coronal Polishing/Application of Pit & Fissure Sealant Course Approved by the Illinois State Dental Society.
- If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
