Job Overview
This role involves assisting the dentist with clinical procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, and supporting patient care. The position offers a 4-day work week, totaling 34 hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist at chairside using 4-handed technique for instrument and material transfer.
- Ensure all instruments and supplies are prepared for procedures.
- Maintain a dry working area using suction.
- Expose and process dental radiographs.
- Set up and break down treatment rooms between patients.
- Disinfect and sterilize instruments and equipment between patients.
- Keep treatment rooms stocked and organized.
- Perform laboratory duties such as pouring, trimming, and separating models.
- Participate in duties like drug cabinet maintenance, lab cleaning, gas level checks, spore testing, and autoclave cleaning.
- Support the operating room as a dental scrub nurse when needed.
Additional Clinical Tasks
- Perform coronal polishing during dental cleanings.
- Apply pit and fissure sealants to children’s teeth as per dentist’s criteria.
Non-Clinical Activities
- Attend mandatory training and education sessions.
- Participate in quality management activities such as chart audits and competency validation.
- Complete safety and survey obligations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; 1-2 years of dental assisting experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Current CPR certification (training provided upon hire).
Physical & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; patient handling equipment used for heavier lifts.
- Completion of approved coronal polishing and sealant courses.
