Job summary

The Cincinnati Children's Office of Academic Affairs and Career Development is seeking a Dental Assistant to support the Dentistry department in day shifts. You will assist the dentist during procedures, prepare instruments, and help manage anxious patients.

Responsibilities include taking and developing radiographs, recording patient information in the electronic dental record, and preparing operatory spaces.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Dental Assistant Technical or Vocational Education.
  • 0+ years Related Experience.
  • State Issued Radiographer's License.
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Preferred: Directly related experience.
  • Preferred: Nitrous Oxide Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Dentist with dental procedures and monitor patients during treatment.
  • Record pertinent patient information in the electronic dental record.
  • Take and develop X-rays, including radiographs, and maintain the X-ray processor.
  • Assist with patient preparation and post-visit instruction.
  • Prepare and disinfect operatory; stock rooms and prepare instruments.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist Doctor with Dental Procedures - Monitor patients, including those on nitrous oxide or narcotics. Take blood pressure and pulse. Monitor respiration, mucosal color and consciousness. Use suction devices, water spray, cotton rolls and holders; retract cheek and tongue. Assist with the management and calming of patients. Use papoose boards and mouth props. Reassure anxious patients. Prepare local anesthetic. Apply and remove plaque disclosure. Mix restorative material, take primary impression using correct disinfection method appropriate to material. Pour impression and trim to suit patient.
  • Patient Records - Record pertinent patient information in electronic dental record. May also serve as a scribe for the dentists in situations where the dentist is otherwise occupied in the direct care of the patient. When functioning in this capacity, the assistant will not be engaged in direct patient care and will serve only as the recorder of the specific comments directed by the dentist for inclusion in the medical record, without interpretation or modification.
  • Radiology - Take and develop X-rays, including panorex, bite wing, occlusal film and cephs. Maintain X-ray processor.
  • Patient Assistance - Anticipate, greet, and seat patient. Instruct patient about pre- and post-operative needs and issues. Instruct patient in oral hygiene and fluoride treatment.
  • Equipment Preparation - Assemble trays, maintain hand pieces, and stock each room. Set up, clean and disinfect operatory.
