Job summary

Overview

Job Description Summary: Assists in providing dental care to pediatric patients by preparing treatment rooms, taking x-rays, assisting dentists, and educating patients and parents.

Essential Functions

Prepares treatment room for patient by adhering to prescribed procedures and protocols. Assists dentist in managing dental emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory. Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist's access; suctioning; passing instruments. Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth. Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions. Documents dental care services by charting in patient records.

Education Requirement

Graduate of an accredited dental assistant training program or the equivalent in applicable experience, required.

Licensure Requirement

Current license to practice dental radiography in State of Ohio, required.

Certifications

Board Certified inExpanded Function Dental Auxiliary in State of Ohio, required.

Skills

Robust communication skills, required. Demonstratedability to treat and teach healthy and medically compromised patients. Possesses good manual dexterity. Abilityto monitor nitrous oxide and patient after analgesia is administered.

Experience

Two years of experience as a chairside assistant, required.
