Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH seeks a pediatric dental assistant to prepare rooms, assist dentists, and educate patients and families. The role includes radiographic duties, instrument sterilization, and managing supplies.
Required are a dental assistant training program, Ohio radiography license, and board certification in Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary, plus two years chairside experience. Strong communication and dexterity are essential.
Job Description Summary: Assists in providing dental care to pediatric patients by preparing treatment rooms, taking x-rays, assisting dentists, and educating patients and parents.
Prepares treatment room for patient by adhering to prescribed procedures and protocols. Assists dentist in managing dental emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory. Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist's access; suctioning; passing instruments. Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth. Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions. Documents dental care services by charting in patient records.
Graduate of an accredited dental assistant training program or the equivalent in applicable experience, required.
Current license to practice dental radiography in State of Ohio, required.
Board Certified inExpanded Function Dental Auxiliary in State of Ohio, required.
Robust communication skills, required. Demonstratedability to treat and teach healthy and medically compromised patients. Possesses good manual dexterity. Abilityto monitor nitrous oxide and patient after analgesia is administered.
Two years of experience as a chairside assistant, required.
Additional Physical Requirements performed but not listed above: Potential for Radiation Exposure, Demanding environment. Will need to be able to multitask. Talking on the phone/in person Constantly (67-100%)
