Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; dental assisting program preferred.
• Board-approved eight-hour infection control training before supportive procedures involving potential exposure to blood, saliva, or other infectious materials.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required by the employer at hire and maintained; Dental Practice Act course completed by hire or within deadline.
• Board-approved radiation safety course completion required before taking radiographs.
• Clear communication, dependable attendance, attention to detail, basic computer skills, and respectful service to diverse patients.

Responsibilities

• Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and patients; provide chairside assistance, suction, and instrument transfer during dental procedures.
• Confirm patient identity; collect and document health history, medications, allergies, and patient concerns for provider review. Promptly elevate urgent concerns.
• Capture intraoral and extraoral photographs. Take dental radiographs after radiation safety training.
• Apply topical fluoride, including varnish, under direct dentist supervision; perform other delegated supportive procedures within the DA scope.
• Clean and disinfect treatment areas; process and sterilize instruments; maintain sterilization records and infection prevention procedures.
• Enter accurate information in the dental record or EHR; route clinical documentation for provider review.
• Reinforce oral hygiene and post-treatment instructions using patient-friendly language.
• Coordinate with dental, medical, and scheduling teams on patient flow, referrals, and missed appointments.
