Position Summary:
The Dental Assistant (DS), reporting to the Dental Clinic Supervisor, is essential in maintaining our four-handed dentistry procedures. The DA participates in chairside activities involving patient contact and explanation of treatment. In addition, the assistant will enable the dentist to be more efficient by carrying out specific tasks.
Essential Functions:
- Welcomes patients to the dental office
- Assists the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
- Removes glasses and any prosthetic appliance the patient may have
- Takes blood pressure and records it on the chart
- Helps patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment
- Prepares operatory for patients following PPE guidelines
- Prepares materials and other necessary diagnostic treatment items necessary for the planned procedure
- Follows protocol for instrument sterilization
- Follows the chairside instructions of the provider
- Charts visits comprehensively and completes E&M coding in compliance with dental coding standards
- Fills in the day sheet with the appropriate procedure
- Transcribes documentation in EHR as directed by the provider
- Maintains a safe environment in the operatory
- Identifies items needed to keep inventory fully stocked
- Organizes lab cases for assigned providers
- Assists the front desk staff and treatment coordinator with responding to referrals, patient follow-up calls, answering phones, scheduling patients upon check-in and check-out, and other duties as the need may arise
- Performs all opening, closing, and maintenance procedures as described in sterilization and maintenance policies
- Works with multiple providers, as needed
- Practices four-handed dentistry
- Conducts Diagnostic Quality X-Rays
- Efficiently completes Preliminary Impressions
- Complies with all state and federal laws and regulations, as they pertain to the position including HIPAA, sexual harassment, Scope of Practice, OSHA, etc.
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Dental x-ray Certification and experience
- 8 hr. Infection Control Certification
- Dental Practice Act Certification
- Current CPR
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with NextGen or other electronic dental record systems
- Experience with Dental billing
- Experience with Denti-Cal guidelines
- Experience in an FQHC setting
- Knowledge of traditional, cultural and spiritual practices of the diverse AI/AN community, as well as ability to work with other racially, culturally, ethnically, and financially diverse populations
