Job summary

Spectrum Healthcare Resources is seeking a Dental Assistant to support the Joint Base Andrews Dental Squadron in Andrews, Maryland.

The ideal candidate holds a CODA-accredited certificate or associate degree in dental assisting or equivalent military certification, with radiography certification and BLS. Responsibilities include chair-side assistance, patient history documentation, sterilization, radiographs, and patient education.

Qualifications

• Certification in Radiography required.
• BLS through American Heart Association is required.
• 1 year of dental assisting experience within the last 36 months is preferred.
• CODA-accredited program or equivalent military training required.

Responsibilities

• Assist dentist in restorative, prosthodontic, surgical, endodontic, or periodontal procedures.
• Obtain and document patient medical history and chart treatment information.
• Sterilize instruments and prepare surgical trays; maintain dental equipment.
• Assist at chair side and perform intra-oral procedures as directed.
• Explain post-treatment care and dental hygiene instructions to patients.
• Operate X-ray equipment and manage imaging records.

Dental Assistant

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has an Exciting Potentinal Opportunity for a Dental Assistant to support Joint Base Andrews Dental Squadron, in Andrews, Maryland

Requirements

• U.S. Citizen


• Degree/Education: Certificate or associate degree as a dental assistant from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA). OR Certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school. Certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course.


• Experience: 1 year with in the preceeding 36 months


• Certified in Radiography


• BLS through American Heart Association

Duties to include but not limited to

• Performs duties in providing assistance in one or more phases of complex/difficult restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgical, endodontic, or periodontal treatment. Receives and schedules patients for treatment.


• Obtains and records related medical history of patient. Charts examination and treatment information. Records information on prescriptions.


• Sterilizes instruments, materials, and equipment; prepares surgical trays. Maintains dental equipment in a clean and operative condition.


• Assists dentist at chair side. Performs intra-oral procedures as directed by dentist. Takes preliminary impressions for study models, removes sutures, places and removes rubber dams, perio-packs, matrix bands, and wedges.


• Relays dentist's instructions to patient for post-treatment care. Instructs patient in proper dental techniques, care of appliances, and causes of dental decay.


• Operates dental X-ray equipment to take intra and extra oral radiographs. Maintains, cleans, and performs minor repairs on X-ray equipment and materials.


• Pours and trims models from impressions and constructs custom impression trays. Maintains a variety of recurring reports related to dental activities.


• Patient Workload, Readiness, and Scheduling. Utilizes Dentrix/MHS Genesis to enter patient specific workload and readiness status and also for patient scheduling.
