Summary

The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System Dental Service is one of the largest patient care, education, and research enterprises in VHA. We are a tertiary medical care facility providing quality patient-centered care across all dental specialties. This Dental Assistant position is an open continuous announcement for 2 positions located in Lancaster (Antelope Valley), California.

Duties

1. The major duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: proficiency in delivering dental care across all disciplines and specialties, with any level dental provider, in various environments. Extensive experience with impression procedures, materials, dental laboratory techniques, and safety is required.
2. Knowledge of preventive dentistry and the ability to provide proper oral hygiene instructions and techniques to individuals and groups of patients.
3. Proficiency in using the dental program in the computer system for scheduling, record charting, and electronic dental progress notes, while adhering to privacy requirements.
4. Involvement in the didactic and clinical training and supervision of dental assistant trainees from affiliated training programs and community volunteers, including students interested in dentistry careers.
5. Maintain advanced knowledge in dental infection control, VA reusable medical/dental equipment regulations, and supervise trainees, dental students, and residents in these areas.
6. Participate in Dental Service performance improvement plans, system redesign projects, and quality assurance monitoring.
7. Contribute to ongoing GLA research projects, which are primarily clinical studies, by supporting professional enhancements and patient care improvements.
8. Work schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
