Job summary

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is seeking a Dental Assistant (DA) to join its General Practice Residency unit in the Restorative and Prosthetic Division. The DA will perform direct chair-side assisting for residents and faculty in the GPR clinic, including care for special needs patients and those under general anesthesia or moderate sedation.

The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma, 2 years of chairside experience, CPR/BLS certification and a radiographer license,

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ chairside experience as Dental Assistant.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification and radiographer license required.
  • Experience with electronic health records and Microsoft Office desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Direct chair-side dental assisting for residents and faculty in the GPR clinic; assist with special needs patients and those under anesthesia or sedation.
  • Dispense, receive, process, and purchase instruments and supplies used in treatment.
  • Maintain organized records and radiographs; provide oral hygiene instructions and help ensure efficient clinic operation.

The GPR provides excellent, comprehensive treatment and offers general dentistry at the postdoctoral level including hospital -based dentistry, as well as treatment of medically compromised and special needs patients. The GPR faculty members are leaders in their profession, and you will work with respected clinicians and educators as well as our GPR residents to provide the best care to our patients.The successful candidate will be responsible for direct chair-side dental assisting for all residents and faculty in the GPR clinic in the College of Dentistry, including assisting with special needs patients, and patients seen under general anesthesia and moderate sedation; dispenses, receives, processes and purchases instruments, equipment and supplies used in the delivery of treatment; provides oral hygiene instructions, ensures efficient operation during faculty and/or clinical sessions; organizes records system; and exposes and develops radiographs. **Work Schedule:** Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm**Pay Range:** The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $21.35 to $27.88, commensurate with experience and education.**Required Screenings:** This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.**Physical Requirements:** A dental assistant needs to have use of both hands, as well as dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental hand pieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate the rheostat for hand pieces or other dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures. The ability to sit and stand for a duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments; and latex.**Education/Experience Qualifications:****Required:** High School Diploma. Minimum 2 years’ experience sitting chairside as Dental Assistant.
