The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dispensing Assistant to join the patient care team in Clinic Administration to support the Dental Clinics. The college’s Dispensing Unit provides a high level of customer service focusing on safe, effective and efficient dispensing/sterilization services to the college clinics.

Location: Postle Hall (0024) • Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 11:30am-8:30pm; Friday, 8:30am-5:30pm. This position may include some weekends and evenings; hours will vary depending on the needs of the dispensing areas.

Responsibilities
  • Assist students and faculty in the provision of patient care activities and/or simulation activities by dispensing instruments/equipment/materials to dental and dental hygiene students in eight predoctoral clinics.
  • Stock/order supplies for dispensary areas, predoctoral clinics and clinic supply side rooms and clinical cabinets.
  • Accurately scan out/in equipment and instrument cassettes dispensed using the college tracking system (or established manual methods).
  • Transport instruments, equipment, and materials to/from dispensaries; examine returned equipment, instrument cassettes, bur blocks and other items for wear, damage or missing elements.
  • Receive a high volume of contaminated instruments/equipment; inspect integrity and transport to Central Sterilization; take quarterly inventory; clean student back labs daily; heat seal dispensary supplies.
  • Follow OSHA, HIPAA and college safety and infection control procedures; provide occasional coverage in Central Sterilization as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and infection control standards; may participate in other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education: High School diploma or GED.
  • Required Qualifications: Must pass health standards and requirements prescribed by law prior to appointment (e.g., hepatitis vaccination, TB test). Radiography positions must be registered with the Ohio Dental Board as a Dental Assistant Radiographer.
  • Desirable/Experience: 3+ months in dental office and operatory practices, four-handed assisting, inventory recordkeeping; experience using computers and Microsoft Office; strong customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • 3+ years of full-time chairside or 6+ years part-time chairside experience; current CPR license; current radiology license; completion of an accredited dental assistant training program; knowledge of dental terminology, infection control, sterilization, OSHA/HIPAA; dexterity and hand-eye coordination; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; color vision and effective communication skills.
