Job description

Traveling Demolition Project Engineer

Independence Excavating is looking for Project Engineers to join our growing teams on demo projects across the United States. Our Traveling Project Engineers must be willing to travel 100% of the time, working on projects in various states. These projects can last 1-2 years on average and offer great benefits and an opportunity to work with a great family-owned company with excellent opportunities for growth.

A typical day looks like:

  1. Reading, understanding and interpreting drawings and specifications
  2. Soliciting quotes from subcontractors and suppliers
  3. Reviewing estimated productions with Project Manager and/or Superintendent to finalize the bid
  4. Preparing detailed schedule and maintaining in (P6)
  5. Tracing and maintaining running totals, tonnages and payments for recycled materials on job sites
  6. Assembling job cost codes for projects and regularly updating
  7. Preparing the details needed for the Project Manager to submit pay estimates to Owners
  8. Monitoring production, resource utilization and overall job cost vs. estimated cost to maintain profit margin on projects
  9. Monitoring and checking the progress of project close-out activities such as punch list coordination, furnishing as-built drawings, providing O & M manuals and compiling final estimate / retainer billing
  10. Other duties as assigned

Do you have what it takes?

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required; an associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred
  2. 2-4 years of previous related experience is required
  3. Must have strong organizational skills to handle the variety of tasks assigned
  4. Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with employees, external vendors, owners and general contractors
  5. Demonstrated ability to manage budget, schedule, people, and quality of work at multiple construction sites
  6. Must be competent to perform complete and accurate project take-offs and estimates
  7. Willingness to travel and stay on jobsite for the duration of the project (will have the opportunity to go home monthly)
