SUMMARY
Drivers are a vital part of our company operations. They are often the only contact a customer has with us, and their actions can significantly impact our profit and productivity. All drivers are expected to practice defensive driving, maintain courtesy, and adhere to the rules of the road.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a current Colorado Driver's License.
- Immediately inform the Branch Manager of any license loss, suspension, accident, or injury.
- Operate vehicle safely and courteously.
- Assist in unloading and placing materials at the job site.
- Deliver materials to customers, obtain proper signatures on invoices, and note any delivery permissions or exceptions.
- Pull and verify accuracy of orders for delivery, secure loads, and check vehicle safety, fuel, and fluid levels before operation.
- Report malfunctions or safety hazards to the Branch Manager.
- Ensure registration, insurance, accident forms, and GTM info are in the vehicle's glove compartment.
- Maintain emergency supplies like flares and fire extinguishers in the vehicle.
- Keep an invoice delivery log and maintain vehicle cleanliness as needed.
- Maintain a RGM book for the vehicle, record returned materials and reasons, and contact the Branch Manager if customer hostility occurs.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform warehouse and shop duties as directed by the Branch Manager.
- Maintain general cleanliness and organization.
KNOWLEDGE, PHYSICAL, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum qualifications established by the U.S. Department of Transportation for interstate commerce, including being at least 21 years old and passing a physical exam every 2 years.
- Good hearing, at least 20/40 vision with correction, 70-degree field of vision in each eye, and no color blindness.
- Ability to hear a forced whisper at 5 feet, normal use of limbs, and normal blood pressure.
- No use of controlled substances unless prescribed, and no felony involving motor vehicles, drugs, DUI, or hit-and-run resulting in injury or death.
- Proficiency in reading and speaking English for communication and reporting.
- Ability to pass a written exam on the Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Higher standards may apply in private trucking operations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work involves variable weather, traffic, and environments including job sites and warehouses.
- Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and use of safety equipment such as glasses, boots, helmets, and gloves is required.
- Loose clothing and jewelry are prohibited.
- Must withstand hot and cold environments.
- Driving constitutes about 70% of the work, with the remainder in warehouse tasks.
