The City of Greensboro is seeking a knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and confident Delinquent Collections Supervisor to lead the Assessment and Delinquent Account Sections within the Collections Division. This position combines team leadership, financial operations, legal processes, and customer service to help ensure delinquent accounts are accurately managed and appropriate collection efforts are pursued. The successful candidate will be comfortable navigating complex regulations, resolving difficult customer concerns, and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

About the Role
As a Delinquent Collections Supervisor, you will:
- Manage, supervise, and perform work activities for the Assessment and Delinquent Account Sections within the Collections Division.
- Supervise staff, including conducting evaluations, approving leave, assigning work, and developing work schedules.
- Oversee billing, collection activities, and account reconciliations related to assessments, parking tickets, and other delinquent accounts.
- Maintain and oversee bankruptcy claim filings and foreclosure proceedings.
- File civil claims for delinquent accounts and represent the City in court to obtain judgments and testify when necessary.
- Review and pursue appropriate collection actions while ensuring processes comply with applicable laws, regulations, and City policies.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to collections, legal proceedings, and delinquent accounts.
- Provide professional customer service through frequent interaction with the public.
- Address and resolve citizen conflicts and effectively manage escalated calls involving irate or dissatisfied customers.
- Communicate clearly and professionally through both verbal and written communication.
- Apply knowledge of the City of Greensboro Code of Ordinances, Public Records Law, Bankruptcy Code, North Carolina General Statutes, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other applicable laws governing debt collection and personnel administration.
- Exercise sound judgment when identifying and pursuing debtors while maintaining appropriate legal and procedural requirements.
- Manage multiple priorities and adapt work assignments as needs, deadlines, and circumstances change.
- Work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Support effective personnel administration and ensure staff responsibilities are carried out consistently and efficiently.
- Ability to communicate well and resolve citizen issues.
This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED
- 4+ years of delinquent collections experience or related field
- 2+ years of Microsoft Word and Excel experience (a test assessment will be given)
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ years of recent supervisory experience or completion of a City of Greensboro Leadership Course(s)
- 1+ years of Infor experience
- Experience with North Carolina Debt Set Off
- Experience with City Code of Ordinances, Federal Bankruptcy Laws, Public Records Law, NC Collection Laws/Regulations, NC State Statutes, FLSA, FMLA, and other laws that govern the identification and pursuit of debtors.
