Cook Position
Objective
To produce, execute, and deliver outstanding prepared foods in freshness, taste, quality, and presentation in a timely and efficient manner. Assist in all aspects of the deli to ensure a Deli team that delivers the product and service Cosentino’s customers expect.
Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Deli Manager.
Status
This is a non-exempt position.
Knowledge
Essential Knowledge
- A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
- Completion of ongoing training as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
- Minimum of one year of cooking experience in a deli, bakery, catering, or banquet operation.
- Minimum of 6 months experience in deli or food service production.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation guidelines.
Non-Essential Knowledge
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Skills
Essential Job Functions
- Develop daily, weekly, and seasonal menu items with the department manager.
- Practice appropriate portion control.
- Prepare foods in accordance with safety, health, sanitation guidelines, and high-quality standards.
- Enforce quality control of all deli products.
- Supervise kitchen team members effectively and respectfully.
- Promote a positive team environment with cooperation, morale, and recognition.
- Train, direct, and manage part-time cooks.
- Communicate clearly with team members about resources needed.
- Maintain inventory control and product rotation procedures.
- Be knowledgeable about department items to assist customers.
- Meet or exceed productivity standards.
- Suggest additional products and offer samples to promote sales.
- Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve management when necessary.
- Implement Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards.
- Operate, clean, and maintain equipment safely.
- Follow and maintain deli programs, recipes, menus, promotions, and standards.
- Demonstrate basic math and reading skills.
Non-Essential Job Functions
- Prepare, package, and label products efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness and setup of coolers, freezers, and prep areas.
- Unload and stock shipments carefully.
- Support additional tasks and cross-departmental assistance as needed.
Physical Abilities
Essential Abilities
- Reaching overhead up to 74 inches, twisting, lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Pushing and pulling items up to 50 lbs.
- Standing and walking for long periods on hard surfaces.
- Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Bending and squatting to floor level.
- Work in colder conditions of coolers and freezers.
Non-Essential Abilities
- Climbing ladders up to 5 ft.
Qualifications
Education
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
Minimum 1 year in frying, grilling, or fast casual dining cooking required.
Preferred experience in cooking, grilling, and frying various foods.
