Job summary

Salpino Food Corp in Wantagh, NY is seeking a friendly Deli Clerk to provide prompt customer service while slicing, weighing, packaging, and serving deli products to meet Pino’s standards. This position also helps maintain a clean, organized, safe, and sanitary work environment and assists with the daily operation of the deli department.

You will maintain deli counters, assist customers with product selections, and help with catering orders as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Friendly, dependable, and customer-service oriented.
• Ability to communicate clearly with customers and coworkers.
• Ability to read, write, and prepare customer orders.
• Ability to follow recipes, procedures, and food-safety standards.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Previous deli, food-service, grocery, or customer-service experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, courteous, and prompt customer service.
• Greet customers, answer questions, take orders, and assist customers with product selections.
• Slice deli meats and cheeses according to customer specifications.
• Weigh, package, label, and price deli products.
• Prepare sandwiches, prepared foods, platters, catering orders, and other specialty orders as assigned.
• Safely operate deli slicers, scales, knives, and other equipment.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and food-handling procedures.
• Maintain standards for product quality, freshness, presentation, and cleanliness.
• Monitor products for freshness and proper temperature.
• Restock deli cases, displays, and supplies as needed.
• Wrap, label, store, and refrigerate products at day end.
• Assist with opening and/or closing procedures.
• Promote featured, seasonal, and new products as directed by management.
• Assist with catering orders, grocery orders, and deliveries as required.
• Work cooperatively with coworkers to ensure efficient store operations.
